Taser

Taser (6 hours)

This 6 hour course will certify the student in the safe use and application of the Taser both on and off duty. This course is approved and certification is given through Taser International upon completion of the course.

Requal

Requal (2-3 hours)

This 2-3 hour course is approved by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services. This class is mandated by the Bureau for existing Firearm Permit Holders. Students must shoot twice annually, and must have at least a four-month time period between shoots. Firearm Permit Holders who do not follow this schedule will not be able to renew their permits at the end of the two year period and will be forced to take the Initial Firearms class again.

After Class

Guard Card

1. Go on line to http://www.bsis.ca.gov/online_services/online_licensing.shtml and complete your Guard Card registration with a credit card. Pay $51.00.

You must include the following information to register:

2. Scan your fingerprints at a Live Scan Site.

Once the Bureau (BSIS) has received and cashiered your applications, and the Department of Justice and the FBI have cleared your criminal history, the criminal history clearance will be transmitted to the Bureau. The cleared Security Guard approval will then appear on the Bureau’s Web site, and may be “Verified” at http://www.bsis.ca.gov/online_services/verify_license.shtml

Once the Security Guard Registration has been cleared and appears on the Bureau's web site, a screen printout from tvhe web site may be used as an interim Security Guard Registration and the Security Guard can be placed on an UNARMED assignment. The actual Security Guard Card will be mailed to the applicant and should be received in 7-10 business days.

A Security Guard on an UNARMED assignment must have on his/her person, a screen printout of the interim Security Guard registration obtained from the Bureau's web site or a valid Security Guard Card AND a valid photo ID.

A Firearm Permit is normally issued two to three months after the Guard Card is issued.

A Security Guard may NOT be place on an ARMED assignment unless he/she has in their possession, a valid Guard Card AND a Firearm Permit issued by the Bureau.

Before Class

For All Students

Please carefully follow these directions:

  1. MANDATORY: Guard Card and Initial Firearms students who do NOT have their Guard Card MUST download this manual, read it, and take the test at the back, and bring it to class. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
  2. Double check the time and location of your class.
  3. Wear comfortable clothes, closed-toe shoes, and no high heels. No flip-flops.
  4. Check details below for your specific class.

Initial Firearms Students Without Guard Card

  1. We only accept cash payment, due on the first day of class.
  2. Students must provide proof of citizenship or legal residency prior to course participation.  These documents are acceptable evidence of United States Citizenship or Permanent Residence.  Driver's license and social security card ARE NOT acceptable forms of proof of citizenship.
    • Birth Certificate (state or county) showing birth in the United states, American Samoa, District of Columbia, Guam, Northern Marina Islands, Puerto Rico, Swiss Island, or United States Virgin Island.
    • United States Passport (unexpired).
    • United States Military ID card.
    • Report of separation (military discharge) (Form DD-214)
    • Certificate of United States Citizenship (INS Form N-560 or N-5661).
    • Alien Registration Receipt Card (green card) (INS Form I-151 or AR-3a; issued by INS prior to June 1978). This card must contain a photograph of the bearer.
    • Resident Alien card (green card) (INS Form n-551, a revised edition of INS Form I-151). This form must contain a photograph of the bearer.
    • Certificate of Naturalization (INS Form N-550 or N-570). This certificate must contain a photograph of the bearer with a dry seal over the photograph.
    • United States Identification Card (INS Form I-197). INS no longer issues these cards, however, once issued, they do not expire. Must contain photo & physical description.
    • Identification Card for use of Resident Citizen in the United States (INS Form I-179). INS Stopped issuing this card after 1997, however, once issued, they do not expire.
    • Certificate of birth abroad issued by the Department of State (Form FS-545 or Form DS-1350).
    • Permit to reenter the Unite sates (INS Form I-327).
    • Refugee or parolee documents (only if accompanied by INS Form I-151, AR-3’s, or I-551).
    • Native American Tribal documents.
